. mary's cathedral in san francisco for their organ and canter service that will start at 7:30. coming up we will try to go in and speak to the pastor about his plans for the service today. live in san francisco allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. >>> we will turn now to other news. new this morning i want to tell you about a rescue along the side of a by area freeway that happened after a couple crashed their car. that car veered off interstate 880 around 1:30 this morning. it got tangled up in bushes and trees along the fence line. investigators still don't know what went wrong. >> witness described the vehicle suddenly looking as if exiting the freeway. >> police say the car hit the fence at full freeway speed. we don't know the extent of the injuries but authorities say the woman inside that car was able to talk to police. however, the man who was driving suffered a head injury and was not able to communicate with his rescuers. >>> it was a wet and soggy saturday. more rain is on the way for the next few days. the storm also brought cold temperatures to many parts of the bay. and holida

incase of the flooding but they closed it. >> to ktvu's lorraine blanco who is live in san francisco where the power has been out for most of the day in the sunset district. >> reporter: right now dozens of people are without power. pg&e crews hard at work trying to restore power. for crews across the bay area, the wild weather left quite a mess. >> reporter: heavy saturation toppled this pine tree today. blocking two lanes and blocking up computers in daily city. firefighters helping the chp. no one was hurt but it has been a while. >> our crews have been working all night. calls been very busy. 30 minutes sleep last night. very busy. >> reporter: in san francisco heavy winds and rain snapped this power pole before sun rise in the sunset district. >> when it happened there were tons of sparks and lightning. >> reporter: at one point 8400 customers lost power here. pg&e said they have been working all day to repair. >> the stuff in the freezer might be going. i missed the football game. not too bad. >> reporter: they agree. although the creek is high, it is fun to play in the puddle.

the morning commute is looking good in san francisco off to a nice start approaching the downtown area. it's 5:00 let's go back to dave and pam. >>> at 5:00 we have breaking news coming in from campbell. firefighters just found a body as they rushed to an apartment house fire. janine de la vega is there. she's been there since 4:30 this morning. what is the very latest? >> reporter: the coroner is still here actually in the back of the apartment complex here on kiness drive. fire investigate evers are here on the scene trying to figure out how this fire started and who was the person who died here. at around 1:15 this morning residents at this apartment complex called 911 because they saw smoke coming from the carport at the complex. when they arrived firefighters discovered a storage unit under the carport was on fire. they distinguished it and opened up and found a body. police spoke to the owner of that storage unit and here's what the sergeant had to say. >> we have talked to the person who's belongings are in the storage unit. they are unaware of anything suspicious. they are unaware of a

. >> thousands of people started lining up yesterday in the cold, in san francisco, just to get a free holiday meal this morning. brian flores is outside glide memorial church. you've been out there since this morning. what's going on? >> reporter: a sea of people, at least a block long. thousands of people in line. some have been here as early as yesterday afternoon to get a free meal. every year, grace memorial church does this children where any give a bag of groceries for those who need it. this year, the church expects to give 5,500 bags of groceries. people have been in line hoping to get chicken, turkey, potatoes, pasta, beans and i many of -- and these items many of us take advantage of every day. many of these people with homeless. >> we see a lot of growing seniors accessing our services. it's doubling and tripling compared to years in the past. if you look at the demographics, the senior population is growing because the baby boomers are getting older and more people are getting on social security and disability as they reach the older years and they are really tight on money. >> re
